Organic Clothing Online in Hong Kong
As Hong Kong’s only shop dedicated to organic clothing Xtreme Green, is driving the Eco-clothing revolution in the SAR. All of the items stocked have organic certification and many are also certified Fairtrade. Established by a group of friends keen to share the secrets of an eco-friendly lifestyle, Xtreme Green’s Sheung Wan shop opened in June 2006. The main message: choices people make when buying products have a real impact on the environment and on people’s lives around the world.

Following an enthusiastic response from shoppers keen to make the shift to clothing that is “better for them and better for the environment” Xtreme Green has launched an online store where customers can browse its extensive collection of organic clothes for men, women and children.

As well as the environmental benefits of choosing organic cotton there may also be health benefits to wearing clothing that are not treated with the toxic cocktail of chemicals currently found in fashion stores. Organic clothing uses low impact dyes and is not treated with chemicals such as formaldehyde.

“When we set up Xtreme Green, organic, fair trade clothing simply wasn’t available in Hong Kong,” says Jo Bryce, one of the founders. “Xtreme Green was established to provide Hong Kong consumers with that choice.”

Bryce and her partners Julia Surman and Deirdre Butler started initially with two ranges of clothing from HUG and the Bishopston Trading Company. The collections were so successful that Xtreme Green has since expanded its collection to encompass 7 different brands and styles. From funky denim designs and classic yoga apparel for men and women to fun casual outfits for kids to luxuriously soft sleepwear for babies Xtreme Green offers them all and in organic cotton.

Next on the list? “Organic cotton bed linen in all sizes from cot-sized to queen-sized” says Surman, “when you wear organic you want to sleep organic too!” With such a wide selection of items from India, Egypt, Turkey and Peru consumers now have a real chance to “shop for change” and improve their health and well-being at the same time.
