Sometimes when you are tired and exhausted it is really hard to make the effort but we all know …Hong Kong waits for NOONE, and looking good goes a long way towards actually feeling good. Whilst I am by no means advocating that one MUST wear make up, I am saying that if you do feel the need, then focus on the crucial pieces that provide the biggest impact with the lowest effort.

I am not a great believer in being overly madeup, but saying that I am hardly natural either! I believe with all the changes occurring in the body of a pregnant woman, it is important to keep some things simple….or at least have a good base to start from. So lets work with creating a good basic face.

The strength of good basic makeup is in defining the structure of your face and working more with tone than overt colour. By promoting your particular facial structure you will always at the very least appear groomed and finished, and most importantly recognisable!!

Always start with a little light moisturizer especially to the drier areas of your skin. This acts as a barrier and allows makeup to be more easily applied.

  • Work with a foundation that has light to medium coverage to any areas of your face that appear dark blemished or discoloured first. I find that generally this is the area through the center of your face….on the chin, around the nose, under the eyes and between the brows.
  • Once you have neutralized these areas of discoloration reassess.
  • You may need to increase the coverage over some areas i.e. blemishes etc but for the most part allow most of your skin to stay with low to nil coverage.
  • Apply a finishing powder to the entire face as this will allow the makeup to stay put and create an even finish.
  • Use a Contour Powder 2-3 shades darker than your own skin tone to create the definition and enhance the structure of your face.
  • Apply this with a blush brush under your cheek bones and up into your hairline. There are no straight lines on your face so always work with a curved shape under the bone going no further in than equal to the outside of your eye.
  • Brush this tone under your jawline and gently down onto your neck to sharpen your jawline too.
  • Next use a light cream shadow to highlight the entire upper lid paying close attention to the lashline. Your inner eye area and under the arch of your eyebrow.
  • A little applied along the outer lower lash area and onto the cheekbone can help to highlight this area.
  • Now apply PLENTY of mascara….if non waterproof keep to the upper lashes only to minimize smudging. Make sure you really get the mascara to the root of the lashes as this will make your lashes appear lusher.
  • Now use a nude or soft rose tone pencil to line lips to create a good clean shape and fill in gently.
  • Apply a gloss or lipstick on top in a neutral tone.
  • Lastly smile into the mirror and apply a golden rose or coral tone to the apple of your cheeks creating a gentle flush

So there it is, a groomed yet defined makeup that allows you to look sharper but not over the top. Remember, makeup should help you feel and look good not be just one more thing to stress about!!
