Children come in many styles but most experts on child-rearing neglect that mothers do, too. Mothering Styles is a three-hour workshop where the focus is you. Your strengths. Your needs. Ways for you to be the best you can be as a mother, and as a woman.

You'll take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, which will help you discover your unique personality type. You'll learn what aspects of mothering come naturally to you and what areas are difficult.

I took the Mothering Styles Workshop while visiting friends in Hong Kong. I
originally took it for a bit of a laugh but ended up being really impressed
by the insights it gave me both personally and about others.

I turned out to be an ENFP. I loved my personality description - who
wouldn't want to be described as warm, enthusiastic, playful and energetic?

I'm a kindergarten teacher by profession and the quote; "What ever I enjoy -
playing tag or singing in the car - I can do it with kids around and its
totally legitimate." Suits me both at work and at home.

Although the tips for all the personality styles were useful the ones I
particularly liked were:

When dealing with her children's personal concerns the ENFP mother needs to
step back and ask herself, "Whose problem is this anyway?" I find this so
true in my own mothering I so easily get upset for my children and try to
solve all their problems - even when it would be better for them to handle
it alone.

If you can't see your way clear through an emotionally laden situation, use
your frustration as a signal to get some help. Get a Thinking friend to
consult with you. This again is a really helpful idea and I'm lucky because
the friend I usually turn to is my husband, an INTJ.

Start your day with a crisis list rather than a things-to-do list. Write
down one to three things you must do or everything will fall apart. I love
this tip. I used to feel guilty because my husband finds that a things-to-do
list is the best way to be efficient but I could never manage it. Now I know
that we have different personalities and I don't ever have to make one
again.
