Annerley offers home visits (either as a stand alone 1 hour session or as a package) and group sessions for new mums-to-be experiencing breastfeeding difficulties. The home visits are ideal for new mothers freshly discharged from the hospital. New mothers sometimes may feel like they need extra support with breastfeeding, which is where this service comes in. The midwife or lactation consultant helps the family adjust to life with a new baby and ensures that good breastfeeding practices are established. The consultant will also help weigh the baby, complete a full physical check, assist in caring for the belly button, check the uterus is contracting well, and give support throughout the ‘baby blues.’ The group sessions, called “Breast Friends,” is a social get-together for breastfeeding mothers who want to network and chat with fellow mums. Each mother also gets a private one-on-one consultation with a lactation consultant as well, so you’ll get the best of both worlds. Other topics covered: selecting a breast pump, positioning and latching, mastitis, sore nipples, and what to do when a baby refuses to eat.
