Ladies

My 3 month old LO is a very "sucky" baby from Day 1, and was quite hard to settle as a newborn. After being told to use a dummy "liberally" up until 3 months (and I had to use it for sleep, I also have a toddler to run after), I have now been told by 2 separate paediatricians to kick the habit. Her sleep is also interrupted when she wakes at night and need something to suck on to fall back to sleep.

Can anyone advise on what the best way to do this is? I guess this really means I will have to sleep train her if I am to withhold the dummy for sleep now. Is 3 months too young to sleep train? Which method would work best for a 3 month old?

I am anxious any CIO method would wake my toddler at night, whom I only recently managed to get to sleep through the night again after 4 months of waking up screaming at night.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can an expat child attend a local govt/aided primary school?

Hello,

Hello,

I am moving to Tai Kok Tsui from Australia with 4 children. My eldest is 7 and I am trying to find a place for her in P2 2012-13. I have spent hours researching local schools versus international versus ESF schools and I have concluded that unless you have a million dollar debenture or a magic wand (to reduce waiting lists) then you have only one choice- a local school.

I have been looking at this website,
http://www.chsc.hk/section1_6_2.php?lang_id=1
And I am impressed with the choice and variety of schools in the Mong Kok/Olympic areas.

My questions are:

1. Can an expat legally attend a local Govt/ aided school (we will be staying in hk for several years under my husbands working visa)?

2. Has anyone had experience with an English-only speaker attending a Chinese/English school? Our P2 child is extremely social, confident and we have no doubt that she would immerse herself in the language and culture. In fact we think she would thrive in the challenge. Plus there are all sorts of phone Aps that can double as translators. But is this realistic?

3. Are you aware of any schools in the Mong Kok/ Tai Kok Tsui areas where expat children (English native speakers) attend local Govt/aided, Chinese/English schools? (We are Christian and would definitely consider a Catholic or Protestant school).

Thanks for your help.

My 3+ yr old boy can go himself at home with little help pulling pants up nicely. I take him to ladies room with me now. But when will he be too old to go to ladies room? And then what do you do when you are out with your opposite sex kid - leave them outside to wait if you have to go? Seems dangerous!
Same for swimming pool locker rooms?
Our eldest is 11 and youngest is 14 months. Our helper will not be starting until after the baby is born and all our friends have children so if is the middle of the night they can't help.
Has anyone given birth at Matilda and had there other children there? I really want my children to be with me until the pushing part but worried there won't be anywhere for them to wait and that my husband will be running back and forth checking on them.
We ideally wanted our helper to start before but she can't and we don't want to loose her.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated : )
