My company will not provide maternity insurance coverage and we are planning to try to have a second child.

In looking at the charges, it looks like it could end up being ~HKD40,000 since my wife will want elective C-Section.

That's a bit steep for out of pocket. Do people buy insurance and can you recommend any companies?

We bought our own insurance. But be careful you're not covered for the first 12 months. :P

Also, you may want to reconfirm that an elective c-section is covered.

Yes you should check carefully if the insurers cover elective c-sections. Some only cover emergency c-sections and doesn't include a second c-section even if necessary after a first c-section. BUPA GOLD covers elective c-section, but I am not sure about Good Health who also cover maternity treatments.

FYI, GoodHealth do cover elective C-section (just checked with them) as do William Russell.
