    Question

I would be interested if any other woman have been told by Dr Clement Chan that they have a "low lying placenta".

It's not uncommon for obs to refuse to tell someone the sex of the baby via a normal scan- govt. hospitals in the UK are very reluctant to tell people the sex for fear of getting it wrong, after a lady sued a hospital for getting the sex wrong.

We obviously had very different experiences!

After I had the nuchal test etc. the results came back with a 1 in 25 risk which is scarily high, and so naturally Dr. Chan recommended an amnio. I refused to have one and he said 'no problem, my choice,' and that was it. He did however reccomend a fetal anamoly scan.

It is hard to believe Dr. Chan would accept a "NO" to an amnio if the nuchal test suggested such a high risk of 1 in 25.

I do not recommend Dr. Chan. Although I paid for the package at the very early stage of pregnancy, I changed to other Dr. in the middle of it.

He seems to get most of the bad comments and yet his clinic always full of bookings!

There is no secret Obs go for C section because it saves time (his time) and gets more money (your mone). The crap about low lying placenta and C sections that often became emergencies before the sun sets down is well known in medical circles. So be cautious and ask around.
The imaculate infant mortality rate is due to a lot of reasons. Unnecessary C sections is definitely not a reason. Tsan Yuk Hospital which was the teaching hospital of QMH/HKU has the lowest maternal and infant mortality rate territory wide. And you know what: it was medical students that do the bulk of the vaginal deliveries. Readers should also realize there is a 3 to 4 fold C section rates in the private in contrast to Government or university Obs units.
Not quite a case of each to his own. Ask around.
