Great to read the advices here, as I'm also looking to buy the mattress. The price difference between foam and spring mattress is really big. The hard foam mattress in SeaHorse which is recommended by a number of mums costs only $120, while the spring ones sold in BumpsToBabes and mothercare costs 10 times more.

Josie, I bought my waterproof mattress cover in mothercare. It costs about $240.

We ended up being given a crib from a friends, whose kids had outgrown it.

The mattress that we were given was 2.5" thick sponge foam, but as it was 3 years old it was a bit saggy in the middle, so we decided to replace it.

I tried looking in Jusco for a replacement mattress, but they didn't have any of the ciorrect size, so we went to a local furniture shop nearby us in Tai Po to have one made up.

I'm just wondering, what sort of thickness and hardness is good for a mattress for a newborn baby. Jeffrey is now two weeks old and weighs a bit over 8lbs.
