The private hospital fees are very depending on what type of room you stay. I also delivered Karina at Adventist and the bill is only HK$34K, it includes epidural, doctor fee.... only exclude the pre-natal and post-natal checkups.

I also have some friends using the public hospitals, some of them had really bad experiences such as the nurses had forced them to take care of the babies even though they were extremely tired after the labouring, some of them said the nurses had no patience in guiding them on breastfeeding skills.

Having said that, I also hear people appraising the Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, although it is a public hospital, their semi private rooms are not bad, I had visited there a few times. My friends who live in Shatin also chose this hospital although it took almost one hour from home to there.

Thanks for the info. That sounds reasonable. What type of room did you take at the Adventist? Did 34k include delivery charges, lab costs etc?

How much did your antenatal and post natal checkups cost? Did you take a package or was it a pay as you go basis? Also would appreciate if you could give me the name of your Doctor.

This 34K covers hospital package and doctors fee. If you do not request epidural, it will save you another 4 - 5K.

The room I stayed actually is the cheapest one Ward room with 4 beds. I was very lucky that there was only myself and another mother during that 3 days.

But I heard sometimes if the Ward rooms are full (since they only have two and you will bel upgraded to the semi-private room with 2 beds free of charge.

My doctor is Macor Wan. His office is in Central with top notch equipment including 4D scan. Each pre-natal checkup is about HK$800.-

i was thinking to choose adventist as well but for an elective c-section ... the package adventist give is 36000 for a first class room .Fortunately my doctor doesnt change his fees according to teh class of teh room . But iwas just wondering are the anestheist`s charges diff for diff classes or stays the same and hwo come the pediatrician`s fees are so high ?

I would never forget the bill amount of HKD141,000, since I didn't have any insurance to cover!!!!

I don't exactly remember the breakdown of the bill....
$40,000 only for Dr.'s operation fee
$15,000 for anestheist
$10,000 for pediatrician
$50,000 for emergency c-section package......

Some OB doctors can work as pediatricians, which saves you some money on pediatricians.

Anestheists are also considered specialists and their rates also increase depending on the room.
