I am tossing up between 3 schools for my kids.

    Kiangsu Chekiang
    Victoria English
    and ESF

We are a Western family that speaks no Chinese at all. We will probably be in HK long term eg 10 years+. My children are 6 and 4 at the moment.

My one and only problem with the ESF schools is that they seem very isolated from anything Chinese as does the whole Western expat community for that matter. I would like the children to learn Chinese and have some Chinese friends too. Actually I think I would prefer them to learn Cantonese as that is the local language.

Kiangsu teaches in English and Mandarin and Victoria English and Cantonese or English and Mandarin. These would be excellent schools to go to to learn English and Mandarin if you were local Chinese but I wonder if my children's general standard of education will suffer being surrounded by non-native English speakers in English medium lessons esp in Kiangsu where 75% is in English. Will the lessons be very slow while the teacher explains new vocab for instance?

I hope I have explained my dillema.

Any thoughts or experiences would be gratefully appreciated....Anything at all...

    creaturecomfort,

as far as i know, a lot of english speaking kids goes to Kiangsu Chekiang or
Victoria too. it's a trade-off if you want your kids to learn more chinese.

personally i'm considering Kiangsu Chekiang, Victoria or SIS. any comment?

    Discovery Bay

Can someone suggest a good Mandarin and English playgroup and kindergarden in Discovery bay? (or in Tung Chung?)
