I disagree

When you move up, do bring your car seat. Oz standards lead the world. We brought ours up 6 years ago and have successfully had bolts (bought at Target in Sydney) installed in a 16 yr old Volvo and 9 yr old BMW.

Our car seat is still going strong and I like the confidence of the extra anchor point.

question for Aussie Mums

just reversing the question:

we are moving to Perth next month, our car seat does not have a bolt attachment. Is that legal? It's an excellent car seat and has travelled about a bit from country to country - just not sure if it's suitable for Australia.

It's a "Century smart move xt".

Appreciate any advice!

I doubt you'll be able to use your current car seat

I've tried to find the actual legislation. There are a couple of references on a google search

Thanks for that link Armstroe, it was very helpful. Turns out my seat will be fine as I can secure it with a safety tether strap plus a seat belt.

The regulations on car seats are quite loose in Hong Kong. There is an article on car seats and hong Kong regulations in the Sept/Oct issue of Playtimes, a hong kong magazine for parents of young children. it's worth getting your hands on a copy. Call 2973 6389 to request one to be sent to you. Car seats can be hired from the YWCA at a cost of $50 per week. Call 3476 1340 for info.
