Question Moving to HK - Some more advice please!

Hi, its Jen again,
My husband and I are looking at options for apartments when we first arrive in HK. We have found an apartment hotel in Ma On Shan, Tolo Harbour. My husband will be teaching in Kowloon. Can anyone tell me about facilities for families in that area - healthcare etc? I haven't heard it mentioned much in peoples discussions and am wondering if its out of the way etc? Can anybody provide some simple advice about places to rent, we don't necessarily want to be in an "expat area" but with a 17month old daughter also want to be near the relevant facilities. Do many people stay in serviced apartments long term or generally move into their own places and buy furniture etc? we will be in HK between 2 and 4 years. My husbands school doesn't pay rental expenses (so therefore costs are a consideration!)
Thanks in advance, (sorry about babbling on!)
Jen

Jen,

Most people stay in serviced apartments for a couple of months until furniture arrives etc. There are a few moms here in Ma On Shan who can give you some more info on the area. Renting in Kowloon is slightly less expensive than HK side. Where will your husband be teaching?

Thanks Rani

My husband will be teaching at the Australian International School in Kowloon. We have taken a jump and booked there as we got word a few other teachers at his school also did. They have pretty good services for kids so we'll see how it goes.
Many thanks for the advice,
Jen

Flat for rent

Dear Jen.
I am a midwife, working here in HK. I am leaving the flat that I live in in Sai Kung to go to another one nearby. My flat is around 20 - 30 minutes away from Kowloon Tong and is in a really nice area. There is a good kindergarten/babygroup next door to me called HKPPA, and a lot of families with kids nearby.
If you are interested, I can give you more info regarding the place and flat and you can consider if this is a possibility for you. Rental price is around 13 - 16.000 HKD per month, for around 1400 sf flat plus a 700 sf rooftop.

Please email me at hulda@amidwife.com if you want more info.
Warm regards, Hulda.
