Question cost of a C-Section in QMH

Since I don't have insurance coverage in HK, can anyone tell me how much I should budget for a C-Seciont done in a HK public hospital such as QMH? If cash is paid upfront before delivery, would there be a cash discount policy, (as opposed to lenthy payment process thru insurance companies practiced in the US?) Thanks!

if you have a HKID and go into the public ward(3rd class) as opposed to 1st or 2nd class, you'll pay $100/day+$50 extra for the day of admission...generally they keep you 5 days, however, i have a friend who had a c section last week and she was discharged after only 3 days

you should know that they don't usually do elective c sections, there has to be a medical reason for it, also, you need to register at Tsan Yuk Hospital before going to QMH...

Thanks for the cost breakdown. So if were to consider a semi-private room for 5 days, i would be looking at paying at least 52K, right? Would this include baby care during the 5-day stay?

Now just out of curiosity, i worked in HK for two years before, I was issued a HKID at the time. Now I, for business reasons, travel in and out of HK using my passport(90 day stay allowed per visit). My question is: am I considered a HK resident for having had a HKID card?

i'm not sure... you could always phone them and ask... i think that if you do not have an "active" visa (ie. one that allows you to be resident) then you would not be eligible....if you are coming and going using your passport, and being issued visitor's visas, then your HKID is no longer valid...(don't quote me on that though)

forgot to say that you wouldn't be paying that much more for a private hospital room... check out the matilda's costs for sharing a room....

    Tammie,

    Nursery is $640/day.

Carang is right, if you're thinking of going private at QMH then the Adventist/Matilda are not much more for the double and triple rooms. Plus you can have an elective C-section.

Have a read through this thread on pregnancy costs:
