Pollution - Air Purifiers and Dehumidifiers

We hope to be moving to HK in May/ June & have a 6 month old baby. I wonder how important air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers etc are given the pollution in HK

Hoping to live on the Southside

Thanks for your help in advance
    Shahira

Dehumidifiers are a must. Your clothes and furniture may get mouldy without one. We also have a humidifiers which we use at night when D has a cold. Air-purifier is not essential for southside.

How effective are the airpurifiers really?
Any recommendations on a good brand to purchase?

Do you have access to the US Consumer's Reports? They have done a lot on air purifiers. I remember that a lot of them emit something harmful as a by-product. Ozone if memory serves me. So you have to be careful. Try this website:

interesting new air purification device...i'll keep you updated

My husband and I are also really concerned about air quality. I went to the Town Hall meeting about air quality last week and the evidence is pretty damning.
I got in touch with a friend of ours in UK who works in the field and she is sending us some kind of state of the art air purifier from the US. It's apparently not available in Hong Kong yet and much more efficient than the ones you get here. I sent her the specs of the ones I saw in the shops here to check over and she said this one was better.
We take delivery of it next week so I'll give you feedback about how we find it and whether we'd recommend it.

Any idea what it is? I haven't left the US yet and could bring one with me. And does it run on worldwide voltage or just US voltage?
