    Chinese Soups

    HEre's a great resource for soups. With kids, I try not to put too many Chinese herbs, but I do follow the standards of feeding guidelines (from the US) when it comes to introduction of various foods (ie: tomatoes not before 1 year).

    vegetable soups are good for the young can try

    1) carrot, tomato, potato and corn (pork bones are optional - make sure to boil it first before adding it to the soup to remove the blood and excess fat)

    2) watercress soup with a little pork bones is easy

    3) winter melon with diced mushroom and pork is good (kids only eat winter melon)

    4) apple and pear soup (use the ones that are over ripe) - good for the throat (2 apples, 1 pear will make a big pot)

    as for congee ... you can try adding these to plain congee...

    1) minced vegetable (bak choy)

    2) minced pork

    3) minced pork and a dash of oatmeal (very healthy)

    4) fish (make sure no bones first)

    5) minced beef
