Maternity Insurance

hi everyone,
had a quick question on maternity insurance - from what i have read, most (not all) insurance companies cap their general maternity coverage at about US$7000 (HK$55,000) - so....

1) did your insurance cover most/all your expenses pre-natal and delivery?

(I know there a couple of companies that cover a lot more and have much higher maximums, but I thought that William Russell, Interglobal, etc., had lower ones.)

thanks.

Goodhealth

I am with Goodhealth, who covered me up to around HKD60,000. However, as I had an emergency c-section they paid for EVERTHING. I think there was one test I had done that was not covered so I ended up paying HKD1,095 for the birth of our baby girl at the Matilda in a semi-private ward. If we did not have the emergency we think we would have ended up paying around HKD40,000 which was not covered by Goodhealth.

Hope this helps...

I had William Russell and they cover $50K for routine materntiy care, and then another $76K if you have any complications. Baby was also 100% covered for the first 28 days but I believe they've capped that to $320K.

Ok, here's a breakdown of what we spent

Prenatal Care (consultations, u/s, 4D scan, blood work) - $19K (a bit high as I switched Drs)
Private Room Adventist - $27K (better to book a semi-private. chances are you'll have it to yr self)
Normal Delivery Dr's Fee's - $21K
Epidural - $4K
Anesthetist Epidural -$16K (high as we called him on a Sunday. best to negotiate his charges before)
Miscellanous Meds - $2K

Pediatrician - $5K (100% covered)

Total: $94K. We ended up paying an additional $40K

Thanks for the posts (especially the cost breakdown!) - another question:

How do costs at Adventist compare to Canossa and Matilda? Do the docs charge differently depending on the hospital?

thanks again.

Jaetee,

Haven't checked this year's charges, but the Adventist is usually a little less than the Matilda and a bit more than the Canossa. I don't think Drs charges change depending on the hospital, only on the room type.

I am just curious how Canossa compares with Matilda and Adventist. I have been to Matilda several times to visit a friend and it definitely looks like a multi-starrer hotel :) Also, comparing apples to apples, how is Canossa in terms of prices and services w.r.t. Adventist or Matilda?

Canossa has good service, and much cheaper.
Matilda is like a hotel. Adventist is somewhere in btw.
Out of the three, I will choose Adventist.

Cheerymum,

Thanks a lot for your opinion. Any other mums want to voice their opinions comparing Matilda with Canossa and Adventist?
