1st appointment with OB - questions!
Hello All,
I'll be 7 weeks pregnant this week (!!) and am going for my very first appointment with an OB (so far I've just done home tests to confirm I'm preggers). I have two questions and would be really grateful to hear people's thoughts:
1. should my partner come with me to the first appointment? Is that what people normally do?
2. can I expect to have a scan this week? I hope so!
Thank you in advance!

i think that it depends on if you are going private or public.
public only do the basic scans. around 12 & 20 weeks. however if there are complications, you may have more.
from what i've head some private dr's do scans each and every time...that's why the costs add up so quickly.
as for your hubby going with you. that's up to the two of you.
with my first, my hubby was only able to come to the scans, all the rest of the appts i went by myself.
this time round, hubby has come to every appt and scan.

it depends on your ob whether he/she will do a scan. why don't you call & ask? but i think they can only do tummy ultrasound after 12 weeks. before 12 weeks, it's a vagina scan. my hubby didn't come with me for the vagina scan. but he did join me at all the others 12/20/30 weeks.
remember to write down the lists of questions you/partner (i noticed you said partner, so i don't know whether it's hubby or boyfriend) want to ask from now til then. cos you'll be so excited, you'll forget everything you want to ask.

one more thing, i don't know whether your ob will do some blood test on your partner. cos mine did. so maybe you can call to make sure.

Thanks Carang and Joannek.
I'm going private (Dr Dawkins).
I asked the nurse on the phone whether I'd have a scan and she said it depends and that its up to the doctor.
I will call back to ask about the blood test though.
Great advice re the list of questions - I will definitely do that. I have quite a few!

Just saw Dr Dawkins last week for my 1st appt. I wasn't exactly sure how far along I was, so he did a scan, and my hubby and 2 kids were there to see it. Its fun to see if you've never seen one before, might want your partner there for the fun part! Good luck.

I also went to Dr Dawkins and I recommend you go with your partner. Dr Dawkins also did a scan to determine exactly how preggers we were (and turns out we were 7 weeks) and we got to hear our babe's heart beat and we got pictures as well.
Congrats!
