3D/4D ultrasound?
I'm always tempted to go for a 3D/4D ultrasound, although my obs told me it wasn't necessary as my 20 weeks 2D scan was perfectly fine. Lately, I read some articles linking prenatal ultrasound exposure and autism!!!
Does anybody know if 3D/4D ultrasound is safe?
Where I can get it? Any good obs recommended? How much does it cost?

Juniper, I have been having 3D/4D untrasounds for my baby since the begining. I have asked the doctor many times if this was safe and she always replied with confidence that it was perfectly fine. Can you tell me where you've read this article (a link is appreciated if it was online)?
Most private ob/gyns provide 3D ultrasounds in HK. a 4D one is not necessary but gives the parents complete joy to be able to see the face of their child. You can ask before you make an appointment if they have both facilities. Since it is with a private doctor, it is not cheap.:cheerlead Almost time!!!!!!

i hAd mine done in the states so i'm not sure about the cost in hk. i paid $150usd for a package.
i think ur doc means it's not medically necessary. when i had mine done, the radiologist told me it's just as safe as a 2d scan, bc it's done exactly the same way, but w/ better scan reading abilities on the machine.
its a great experience for the parents. since it's not a medical necessity, i think the technology is more commercialized.

I had a 4D ultrasound done at 30 weeks at Dr. Lam Yung Hang's office (same office as Dr. Macor Wan). He spent about 30 mins with us and gave us photos and DVD. It cost HK$1500. We didn't do it because it was medically necessary but just for the experience since this will be our last and we didn't have one done last time.

Hi,
We had a 3d scan at 20 wks as part of the fetal anamoly test. The scan was to make sure that the baby was developing properly- and checked things such as, the heart had the correct number of chambers, and the liver and kidneys were working etc. The Dr was also able to make sure the brain was complete etc. It was pretty amazing. It also means you can be 100% sure about sex of the baby.
I had mine with Dr. Doo, also $1500

3D is a still 3 dimensional picture, 4D is a moving 3 dimensional picture.
