    Prevenar vaccine - hurts more?

planning on giving DD Prevenar after she turns two. however, just discussing with another mom, she said she heard that this is an 'oil-based' vaccine, and hence would hurt quite a bit more than normal shots.

i've never heard of such a thing before, just curious about it, can anyone who's had the shot pls confirm?

My DD had the prevenar this past winter before she turned 2. I don't know if it hurt her more than other vaccines because she cried as usual when they jabbed it in, but only for a few seconds. My impression was that it didn't hurt more than the other shots.

My son had the jab last week and just cried out for a few seconds like he normally does. He had it at 20mths and will need a second shot at 22mths. But if you wait until after 2yrs he only needs the 1 shot. Regarding side effects, he was fine and didn't even have a fever.

My baby had it at 6 months but gave his usual cry and then was OK after about 10 seconds after the DR played with him.

I am a community health nurse and give that vaccine all the time. It is not "oil based" I don't even know what on earth that is referring to! But we usually give it last as it does seem to hurt more. We typiccaly need to give 3 injections ( one for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, hib, pertussis, one for meningococcal, and the prevnar) and most of the nurses where I work give the prevnar last. But most of the time the babies calm right down as soon as it is done and you stand up with them and bounce them around. It depends on what type of diluent is used, some sting more than others.

Each time my doctor only gave baby two injections at the same time. One in each leg. Can two of theose injections be put together?
