    Maternity Insurance Advice

    Hello
I've had quotes from my broker about several different insurance companies as my employer provides the basic bupa package which does not cover maternity benefits.
The costs vary greatly but William Russell's Elite Platinum package looks a good mid range option.
Can anyone advise me on whether this would cover everything I need - i'm hoping to have a normal v delivery at the Matilda...... I also appreciate that the 'maternity waiting period' is 12 months after enrollment - that's why I want to sort it out quickly.

    Hi,

I can't comment on specific insurance packagaes but I would say that make sure your insurance will cover an 'emergency c-section.'
I also planned v birth at the Matilda but ending up having emergency c-section which made the total cost a lot more expensive. Fortunetly our insurance covered it but it's worth making sure any package you take will too.

Can not recommend the Matilda enough!

I went for Allianz as the cover is more extensive but it has recently increased its premiums quite substantially.

Are you a teacher or in the education sector? If you are, there is a special priced coverage (lower than what brokers have quoted) for the likes of me in the education sector (as long as you're considered an international educator) that will allow you to give birth at Matilda. PM me if you are and I'll provide you with the information.

You should look at costs for Matilda and your Dr. (doctors' charges can vary considerably). Do you want private room or can you settle for semi or ward room etc.

I had William Russell, and their premiums have gone up significantly in the last couple of years. Have now switched to Healthcare Int'l.
