PP,

13 months is a bit too early to start potty training. Most experts suggest you wait till your child is 2 and is showing signs of being ready. Have a read through the similar threads below and this article by Yvonne

I've heard that it is closer to 3 than 2 before they "get it"

W|ow, I agree, 13 months is way too young. Why the hurry? The younger you do it, the harder it will be. If you leave it until the child is ready than it is less likely to be 'training' and more likely to happen staright away with no accidents.

my boy started showing signs of wanting to do it around 20 months. once his baby sister was born(he was 24 months), he regressed until about 3 months ago (26 months).now, he's 29 months and always goes on the toilet at home.

we still put a nappy on him if we're going out in the car or for an extended period of time.

in the kindies i worked, i saw most children having been potty-trained by the age of 3. IF they're not, however, (and this does happen) the 'sumsums' (janitors) will change your child's diapers during his/her stay at the kindy. trust me, no school will reject your child because of this reason. also, in these places, MANY children of age 2 were NOT potty-trained, so it was part of the sumsums' daily work to change diapers on a routine basis. so please don't worry and give your little one more time
