Dr Ho can be reached at 2899 2293 and Dr. Dawkins at 2715 4577. Both can be easily "googled" for full contact info. Both are located in Central.

Note that Dr. Ho is more of the fertility specialist, Dr. D is only a general OBGN. He referred me to Dr Ho, who has the facilities required for slightly more complex cases. You can go directly to Dr. Ho.

Cost... sigh... I don't even want to calculate it all... I must have spent upwards of HK$20K all in, for all the fertility treatments over about 7 months, including all the scans, the shots, the meds, not to mention the consultation fees. Both doctors are at the very high end of the cost spectrum... Both charge about 900 per scan and 900 per consultation, something like that. So it's at least 1800 each time you go in for a visit, not counting the cost of the drugs. Both you get what you pay for, I suppose. And in the end our dream came true for us, so it was all worth it.

By the way, do you know what your "problem" is? Mine was ovulation so that was pretty easy in terms of diagnosis. Just had to get my system up and running. Are you positive you are ovulating? If so and you are still having problems, you should get an "x-ray" of your tubes to make sure they are not blocked. This is not a comfy procedure. They basically inject a blue dye into your womb through your cervix and then watch what happens on the xray to see if your tubes are okay. Dr. Ho suggested that this would have been the next step for me, if I had not gotten preg that first cycle on the GonalF shots. I would have been happy to do it.

Best of luck to you. Let me know if you need anything else at all.

TTC#2, so sorry to hear about the AF, I was thinking of you last night. Grrrr the horrible thing.

MayC, it's never over until the AF really arrives. What are your temps doing? Let us know how your hubby's results turn out. Good for you to finally get him over there

BTW Clowe I am really surprised for your quote of $20K for your 7 months treatment. I have just strated seeing a FS myself and I pay at least 20K a month! The first month was the worst as all the blood tests had to be done for initial evaluation, that month cost me close to 40K. At least in my case I pay in the same range as you did for a consultation and a scan, but then there are also charges for all the blood tests relating to various hormones etc - each visit costs at least 3.5K and with meds easily 8K. There are at least 3-4 visits a month. Oh should I mention my insurance doesn't cover any maternity related cost...

BTW, another note on charting. Mine always showed clear ovulation pattern etc, however my FS now thinks I still have a mild PCOS which causes slightly worse quality of the eggs I produce and therefore our struggle to get preggers. I don't have any normal symptoms of PCOS, just the blood tests over the past two months pointed out that I am borderline. I think also my LH levels were somewhat funny, also just a little but enough for the FS to want them different. So I am on metformin now which should help both the LH and the eggies.

Still, I am finding it hard to look forward at this point and will probably give myself a bit of a breathing space this month. As hubby correctly pointed out, it's not a race so I can relax for a few weeks.

    x

Sorry about the temps, MayC :-((((

I know, the cost is quite astronomical. Can you try to get insurance now that would cover at least some of the cost should it come down to it? Also, there are some cheaper meds out there (like Clomid vs injectables, progesteron tablets vs. crinore gel), unfortunately some of them (Clomid) didn't work for me as I got very thin lining on it without the intended superovulation and as for progesterone, my FS didn't even offer the less expensive choice, she thinks crinone is the best even though it's definitely the most expensive.

oops, sorry brightstar, i meant US$20K... i'm still thinking in USD. yes the whole process is financially excrutiating just as much as as it is emotionally... and no insurance that i have ever come across covers fertility treatment. maternity coverage is one thing but fertility is one scary area where we are pretty much on our own financially...

MayC, please don't worry about your xray. i've heard it is not comfy but not painful either! i read up a LOT on it cuz i was sure it was going to be the next step for me. and most women said that it is invasive yes but it's not painful except for a bit of cramping AFTERWARDS. and it is such a worthwhile procedure because it will reveal a lot. so don't worry about the pain - i am a wimp also when it comes to pain so i understand how you feel, but seriously - i think you'll be just fine. and it only take a few minutes to complete. AND the results are in immediately!

good luck everyone... i wish i had discovered this forum while i was TTC'ing... but now i'm so happy to share whatever i can with you ladies.

MayC I can understand your concern. To tell you the truth I thought it quite hokey at first until I got pregnant. =) You do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I was recommended by several friends to this particular chinese doctor, so I was a bit less hesitant. Anyhow, I got AF now...and will start taking the chinese meds (yack yack!) tomorrow! Let's see how it goes....

    Hi everyone,

Can I join you in this discussion forum? I have been TTC for nearly 2 years. No luck. Been to FS and now TCM. Has anyone tried TCM with either Troy Sing or TCM practitioner at Baptist University? Basically TCM practitioner said that I am not ready to conceive as my body is out of sync.

Any replies would be very much appreciated.

Btw, expecting my AF anyday now.

Thanks for clarifying the acronyms, MayC - I get the general idea but would you mind spelling out what are:

    AF
    BM or BD?

Probably really easy to think of but great if you don't mind,
    Thank you!
