FOr us first child 9 cycles, second child one cycle. With my first I went to the doctor around the 7-8 cycle to get an appointment with a fertility specialist as it takes 6 months to get in, so I'd have the appointment if needed, luckily didn't.

Conceiving a second child - how long did you take?
First child took 4 cycles, second the same but I had a miscarriage, so we just started trying again. We're on our second cycle in November. Both times when I conceived I wasn't thinking about it. I think your body reacts better if the process is more natural and you can relax. Harder said and done, but it's not a race.
I wanted my kids to be closer in age and once the miscarriage occured I was very sad. My daughter turns 2 years old soon, so the next kid will definitely make them 3 years apart. Not the ideal situation, but at least my daughter will be at half-day school by the second arrives. This way I won't have both of them to deal with at the same time...you can focus your love/attention a little better I guess.
Stay positive...it's the only way to go. Best of luck as I need it as well.

Aussie mum:
I know that feeling even though we haven't been trying that long. But the frustration is still there. I thought the same thing want a baby get a baby. I guess that makes us cherish the one we have even more. Best of luck. You neve know what Santa might bring you ; )
Goodluck and keep well!!!
By the way I am an Aussie mum, too.

I'm the other way round. First child 2 years (resorted to fertility treatments in the end) and now pregnant with my second which was conceived on first cycle naturally so I was very surprised considering it took so long for the first one.

This is how random it gets - two boys each conceived in the first cycle. As for the third - been trying for about 7 cycles.

First baby first cycle. We started trying for #2 when our daughter was 10 months old. Wanted them close together in age.
Conceived #2 first cycle but had a miscarriage, told by doc to just try again so conceived #3 on second cycle then had another miscarriage. Told to try again and conceived #4 first cycle. Another miscarriage... It has been a long and very emotional year.............................................. ........................
Went to see a specialist overseas, who seems to think I have a blood-clotting disorder. which means that our first must have been some kind of miracle. Makes her even more precious than she already is and we love her so dearly. Just want to give her a little friend to play with, I grew up an only child and feel that she should have someone else around her to talk to and be with esp later on in life when parents become less important!
Told to go ahead and try again, conceived #5 first cycle and now having to inject myself everyday in the stomach with Heparin. Am totally desperate to hold onto this one..............
Good luck to you all, I feel for each and every one of you.

How interesting! Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with me. It's comforting to know it will happen one day.
