Cord blood storage

Hi. I am giving birth in a few weeks and am trying to get a better feel for why people choose to / or not to do this, as the case may be.

My hunch is that it is more common for parents to choose this option if they know about genetic disease in their family history, as it is an expensive service.

If you've chosen this option, Id love to hear why. There is so little information out there, aside from the service being available.

Many thanks in advance,
Sarah

For me it's another form of insurance policy I hope I never have to use. There are limited conditions it can cure currently, but you save against the liklihood these will become more wide ranging in the future.

I spoke to a variety of health professionals and the feedback was essentially, if you can afford it why wouldn't you. The final thing that sealed the deal for me was that my doctor had just had a baby himself and he stored the cord blood.

Hope that helps, all very individual though I'm sure.
