HK ID for 2 year old??

    Hi..

My husband has the HKID and both my daughter and I are Canadian citizens and when coming to HK we entered with our Canadian passport.. I recently applied for a dependant VISA and got approved. But when I asked about a VISA for my daughter, they said children under 11 do not require HKID's, but does that mean she needs to re-enter HK every 3 months???
I forgot to ask the immigration officer exactly how it would work with her.
Does anyone know, or is in the same situation?

    Thanks!!!
    ~Theresa~

She should have a dependant visa in her passport, but isn't eligible for an actual HKID card until age 11. With the visa in her ppt, then she doesn't need to come and go every 3 mths.

Make a dependant visa application for her and there should be no problem.

    Hi Katelyn

We have a two year old too. Didn't need the HKID card. Didn't have to enter every 3 months. The dependent's visa is the only he needs to have the right of abode in Hong Kong.

But when we re-enter Hong Kong, we can't use the instant computerised channel using the ID card. We have to go through a manned booth.

Is your husband Chinese and a holder of a permanent ID card?
If so, then you daughter will be eligible for a permanent ID card and you can get a chop in her passport saying so.

I was just at immigration this week for my daughter. They do not issue any ID cards for children under 11 years old, regardless of status. All they do is put stickers/chops in the passport to prove status.

thanks everyone!!! I guess its the same application that I used when applying for a dependant visa... I wish I did this together when I applied for my own visa.
