    How long in hospital?

does anyone know how long you "have" to stay in hospital at the Queen Mary public hospital? All being good with baby, I like to leave within 4-6 hours and am NOT keen on going to hospital that makes you stay for days...anyone have any idea?

Also is Queen Mary the closest and most logical choice for public hospital if living in Discovery Bay?

Not pregnant yet but thinking about it for next year...eesh...

if you live in db then i believe you are in the catchment area for QMH ( i could be wrong on this though).

i would think it HIGHLY unlikely that they would let you leave 4 hours after giving birth.

i do know a woman, a mother of 4, who left the day after. she just told them that she knew what she was doing as she'd done it 3 times before. they let her go.

after my c-sections, i left 3 days later.

if you are a mother of 2 already, they may be willing to let you go earlier... but not sure

12 hrs is generally the minimum.

I left QMH after about 36hrs with my 1st, and PWH after 48hrs with my 2nd.

The doctors are happy to let you go as soon as you are able, but you have to factor in any additional things that need doing such as vaccinations and any screening tests if you are opting for them.

Make sure you let them know beforehand when you would like to leave so the Dr's are aware you want to be discharged.
Give them plenty of notice, as they can be frustratingly slow.
You will need to be seen by a different Dr to your baby.
If you want to leave in the morning and you've missed the rounds you will have to wait until the afternoon.

    Hey mumto2,

I live in DB and had my first at QM and will be going there for my second as well. My first was emerg c-sec and I was in and out in 49 hours. Believe me, they don't want you there are much as you don't want to be there. I thought I would be there for 5 days, ut the nurses kept asking me if I had help at home (hubby, grandparents) and because I did I think that is why I was allowed to go. Both baby and I were fine.

And the hospital wasn't even busy... only 2 other beds were being used around me during my stay.

Fingers crossed it as smooth the second time around.

    Good luck!

I was in POW and out the next day. If everything is going well they will let you leave. A friend of mine on her second at POW was out the same day. She gave birth at 7am and was out at 6pm. She asked to leave and was allowed but had to bring the baby back next day for a check and hearing test I believe.
