I know this is an old thread but we just got back from from the JW Marriott, Phuket and loved it.

    - beautiful room with tiles and wood and not carpet
    - kids friendly restaurants, though the quality of food was average
    - great kids pool with a water slide
    - Jumbo the elephant visits everyday
    - lots of family with young kids there
    - very close to the airport, 20 mins by taxi

    - pretty isolated, not near shopping or other restaurants, which was good for us cause we wanted to hang out with our 12 month old at the resort.
    - the beach was beautiful: quiet and long. Though it gets a bit rough so we didn't swim there.

We would go back for a weekend of: coconut by the pool; quick trip back to the room for bub's nap; one of us ducks out for a Thai massage by the beach while bub gets to run around barefoot ;-)

We stayed in RenessainceSpa Hotel which is close to the airport. We jhad a villa with a small pool and there was a great kids pool and club. The beach wasn't that great as it was too dangerous to swim but the pool and the facilities were great. It's 10 minutes from Mariott and you can use little carts to get to all the hotels on that strip and use their restaurants etc. I thought JW Mariott was a bit dated and super noisy.

I have never in my life heard of helpers rates and cant see why they would have one after all they occupy a seat just like everyone else, eat the same food, travel in the same class etc Where we stayed we used babysitting service so we didnt take our helper with us

I think the "helper rate" is the special price for foreign domestic helper here in HK on 2-year contract to fly home at end of contract.
