    bread

    Hi all,

Just wondering if it is OK to give a 7.5 month old bread as finger food? Does it need to be toasted?

    Thanks,

    Grace

In my opinion white bread might constipate the baby, but whole grain bread might be alright if given in moderation. I would avoid breads which contain too many additives/ emulsifiers.

bread is ok and i don't think it needs to be toasted, just cut into small pieces.

mine preferred it toasted, cos sometimes soft bread got stuck on the roofs of their mouths. My 2nd also preferred white bread, since she only has less than 1 slice a day, I just let her. She did not have any constipation problems as a result of that.

I'd be careful about giving bread in too big of pieces--they'd pretty much have to be crumbs for a 7.5 month old to handle it, I think--most bread is a big spongy and can easily get stuck in the throat or as AndreaY said, stick to the roof of the baby's mouth. Toasted probably would be better as it's crispier and probably easier to eat.

agree with the above posters, toasted bread is better for little babies since bread is sticky when not toasted and can be a choking hazard if he/she bites off too big a piece. Most babies prefer chewing on harder things I think with teething an all.

if i remember correctly, my two ate the crusts rather than the middle bits.

i still cut my kids peanut butter sandwiches into little squares/bite size pieces (my son is almost 4!)
