Pre-school Inquiry
We will be visiting Hong Kong for about 2 months and I like to send my 2 yr old to pre school for half a day for some fun, education and interaction Any recommendation? We will be living on Hong Kong island in the mid levels Happy Valley / Peak area.
Also, I would like her to immerse into Mandarin - is there a "school" that teaches toddlers Mandarin?
Thanks

you will have a VERY hard time finding a "pre-school" for only two months.
you would be far better off looking for playgroups for an hour or so a couple of times per week.
hk kids tend to start kindergarten anytime after 2 years... so pre-school here is REALLY pre-school, if you know what i mean

maybe look into classes at Better Chinese / Beijing Mandarin for your kid. Which two months will you be here for? International schools have summer programs from June - Sept, depending on which school it is...Hong Kong International School - June / July; English Schools Foundation - Jul / Aug; Chinese International School - Jul / Aug. Good luck!

this is sort of related,
is there a such thing as week long summer day camps half or full day for kids in Hong kong? In canada pretty much all the facilities for kids and familes, like museums, swimming poole, leisure centers, historic parks, etc will have these programs. Does anyone know of organizations offering similar programs in HOng kong?
I am thinking of this for a 3 and 5 year old

Going to the original question, as Cara says, try playgroups that provide classes for a couple of hours or so. Around the Happy Valley area, there's Woodlands Happy Valley, PIPS in Parkview (long wait lists though) and there may be others. There's lots of info about these places on the web. I *think* Woodland do a morning session 3 times a week.

i hope that my playgroup centre will be offering such "day camps" but we are so busy with our regular schedule, that i'm not sure where i could fit them in...

Hi babymommy2,
the international schools I mentioned above will have summer programs...i believe CIS has 1 week sessions, HKIS has 3 week sessions but i am unsure how the ESF does it. i am sure you can sign up for half day or full day at all these schools.
