Is butter OK?

Butter is fine of course...babies don't need to be on a low-cal, low-fat diet. Of course, a stick of butter a day would be excessive, right? :0) And yes, margarine is really bad stuff...marketed to be transfat free etc...but it's like a few molecules away from being plastic. I will check out Annabel Karmel as I haven't heard about her before. Thanks!

Please don't take it personally but is it only because you "think" its not necessary or you have a credible resource which tells you so??

annabel karmel is an expert in her field. we used 90% of her recipes at the beginning stages of weaning and in her 9-12 month recipes, she does suggest using a little butter....i am sure the range is there so it's when you feel comfortable, you can introduce it. we introduced a little of it at the end of 11 months and i think everything in moderation is a good thing. like MLBW said a whole stick is just silly, but little here and there is fine. my now 13 month year old has butter on toast and some in his mashed potatoes when he eats.

Like Southside852, I also follow Annabel's recipes and have read many of them which are for older kids. I use little butter when I cook and also on toast.
