I'd just like to second what Buckeroo said.
There is no need to warm formula. Both my boys have happily drank at room temp.

I had one friend whose baby was so used to warm milk that if it cooled down too much during the feed it had to be warmed again.

It makes life so much easier when you are out.
    Just mix shake and serve.

Can anyone give any advice on what are the bare essentials I have to get I find different lists in different books and its quite confusing, I'm not due till August and don't want to spend money buying things that I may not need.

i believe the bare essentials for newborn are:

    - cot and cot toys
    - a car seat (taking baby home in taxi/car - safest way)
    - a stroller ( your baby is not heavy enough for the bjorn only for a sling which we were not fans of so it's totally personal choice.)
    - 2-3 cot fitted sheets
    - natural, chemical-free detergent to wash clothing and towels
    - changing mat (doesn't need to be a table)
    - activity gym
    - 2 grobags
    - if you are bottle feeding: at least 4-5 bottles, sterilizer (steam is the best)
    - if you are nursing: nursing pillow (Boppy) and foot stoll (Ikea has cheap ones)

the reason there are differences with the lists is because what is "essential" to me, may not be to you.

    for me:

    (for a newborn)
diapers (be they disposable or cloth)
4-5 onesies (i preferred the "monk" type)
car seat (if you have a car)
sling/stroller (you only NEED one, but both are nice to have)
someplace for baby to sleep (whatever/however you decide)
i breastfed, so nothing really NECESSARY, however, a bf pillow was LOVELY to have

yep, carang is correct. it's what you feel comfortable having. every mommy will have different opinions on what they needed those first couple of months after birth...
