    Japanese Encephalitis - vaccine?

Has anyone had their baby vaccinated against Japanese Encephalitis? We travel a lot to Taiwan so have been advised to do so.

Thanks - I saw that old thread but was wondering if anyone actually had their baby vaccinated against this disease before.

our US pediatrician strongly advised us to get the vaccination and to give it to our son before we moved to HK, but my husband is allergic to bee stings so if that is the case, then you cannot get the vaccination. As a result, we are not sure if our son is too so we have not yet given it.

There was a recent case of an American girl who got Japanese Encephalitis in Bejing and lost some of her speech. After a year, she has to regain all of it back. I don't think we are at high risk on HK Island or so my HK pediatricians tell me, but have heard that in the New Terrorities you are a higher risk and of course if you travel to mainland China or to other more rural areas.

Thanks for the post. :) I dont know if my baby is allergic to bee stings, and I heard that there is a slight risk of anaphylaxis, so we will get the vaccine and then wait in the doctor's office after the shot to see if there is any reaction.
