Vaccines into China
Hi. I hope someone here lives in China, but sees a pediatrician here.
We are going to Shanghai via train and planning on taking the future dose of vaccines. If detected, will customs confiscate them?

I used to live in SZ. I would be willing to bet that they would confiscate it. IF detected, however.
From what I hear, there are pretty good expat hospitals/doctors in Shanghai. Can you not get the vaccinations there?

Hi...
I have gotten the vaccinations there. Actually, our clinic purchase and imported our order from England (gov't regulations supposedly) and it was quite expensive. If I remember correctly, Prevenar (same as Prevnar?) alone was over 1,000rmb, then an additional 700rmb or so for the pediatrician fee. Bringing from HK will avoid the extra paperwork and the source is more trustworthy.

Hmm... I actually remember reading something recently (re Airplane travel) that vaccinations were ok to bring, since they were for the health of the child. It might be the same since it is personal use as you only have enough for your child. Besides, the odds of them searching your bags are probably not so great, as you are a family, therefore low risk. But I haven't taken a long distance train from HK to mainland so I can't be sure, sorry.
