Hepatitis A vaccine (and Meningitis vaccine)
Has anyone had their LO vaccinated against Hepatitis A?
If so, how old was your child? Any side effects?
Also, what about the Meningitis vaccine?
Thanks for the advice.

My oldest was 3.5 when she had her first jab (you have two 6 months apart). and youngest has just had her first at just over 2. She will have her second just before we return to HK.
I do not know about Meningitis. Neither of mine have that one.

Yes, both my children have been vaccinated for both.
Hepatitis A is two shots. Recommended the youngest you administer the first shot is at one year of age, and the second shot should be between 6 to 12 months later.
Do you mean Meningitis, or Meningococcal? If you mean the latter, the vaccine is not available in Hong Kong, although it is now standard in Australia (meningococcal C, vaccine most widely used in Australia is tradenamed "meningitec"). It is on the free list in Australia as one dose administered at or after 12 months. If you choose to have it done before (which I did), it is either 2 + 4 + 6 months, or one at more than 4 months of age, with a booster at 12 months.Last edited by beckveldman; 04-04-2009 at 04:24 PM.

My children were vaccinated against Hep A here in HKG. When we were still in the States it wasn't in the program, and once it was, we were about to move back to Europe (where it isn't) so we changed around a little bit. They had their first one in November (4 1/2 yo and the twins were 2), they'll need to have their second shot within a year.
My kids also got 4 pneumo shots (mostly in the US). Men C is not in the US program, but in our home country's program (normally at age 12 months) so they had it at 16 months or so (twins) after moving back and my oldest just before age 4.
My kids didn't have any side effects to immunizations and are fully vaxed.

I paid to have hep A for my children. I think they had to be 1 year old, but can't quite remember. 2 doses 6 months apart. We got that one specifically because of travelling. They had meningococcal and pneomococcal as part of the routine vaccine program in canada
