    Can you refuse newborn vax??

Hi does anyone know if you can refuse to have the newborn vaccinations that they like to give here in public hospital? Did you have any problems refusing or was it ok and simply a case of signing off on it?

    Many thanks

vaccinating is a very touchy subject and a very personal one.

personally, living in one of the most densely populated areas of the world, a place where disease spreads like wildfire, a place where things such as TB are not only found, but are quite prevalent.... i would never consider not vaccinating my child. again, that is my personal choice. i know that if my child got sick with something that could have been prevented because of vaccination, i would never forgive myself.

that said, i did hear some women refusing the vaccination. they were questioned as to their motive. all of them said that they planned on doing it privately and were let go. i am not sure what would have happened if they point blank refused vaccination.

Yes gosh isn't a touchy one!

I also only get my vax done for my kids privately and at an age I find appropriate. I just hate the thought of overloading them on the day they are born!

they don't give the vacs on the day they are born, rather on the day they go home.

i refused newborn vacs but that was in private hospital. no one questioned me about it at all but i did get a follow up phone call from Dept of Health a few weeks later to discuss TB vaccine.

I also plan to refuse the hospital administered vaccines for similar reasons. I am going to say that we will get them done privately at a later date, which is true (I'm just not sure how much later). I've already discussed with my GP and he agreed that there is actually no medical reason to give Hep B & BCG at birth - it's because it's much easier for the govt to administer it as a public health program. He said to expect some resistance but ultimately they can't do it if you refuse permission.
