Drinking water in Beijing
I will be spending 10 days in a Beijing hotel with my 6 month old, and starting solids over there. For the rice cereal I'll be using breastmilk, but am intending to take a steamer / processor for purees. Does anyone have any ideas about which water to use for this purpose? Can't use mineral water, distilled water no good, and can't imagine the tap water from bathroom safe.
As it will be hot I may also have to introduce some drinking water to prevent dehydration. Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks in advance.

we always used distilled water, for both formula and mixing. as well as for drinking...did it with two kids. when in a pinch we used mineral... or boiled.
no problems. all distilled water is, is water that's been boiled to nothing then condensed again...the boiling should take care of any nasties in it...

Have you considered delaying the introduction of solids until you return home again?
Giving solids is often quite messy and this may not be what you want while staying in a hotel.
The baby shouldn't need any water - just feed a bit more often to get over the hot weather.

We can't delay solids as will be going to Japan for a 10 day stint 2 days after returning from Beijing!
Guess I will use distilled water for steaming, and hope that he remains well hydrated on breastmilk.

I use distilled water for steaming, same as I do for my drinking. I`m wondering, what else can you use? And I don`t think you will need to give your baby any liquids other than your breastmilk for now.

When my baby was six months I spent a month in Taiwan traveling from place to place. I couldn't face the idea of starting solids so we waited until we got back home. It is fine to start solids anywhere between 6 and 9 months.
