Planning to give birth in HK, Romanian living in Zhenzhen

    Hi everyone,

Desperately need a professional advise, guys.

I am 7 month pregnant, due date is end of September 2009. I booked Baptist Hospital from Hong Kong for delivering the baby.
Both myself and my husband are Romanian citizens working and living in Shenzhen (with working visa). Now, what I need to know is what are the documents that I need to have so that to be able to bring back my baby home in China, after birth (3-4 days after birth)? We live one hour away from HK, in Nanshan, Shenzhen.
Is birth certificate from HK Immigration enough to be able to cross the border to China? If not, what else do I need?

Really appreciating if you experienced something similar or any info on this topic.

I am quite stressed at the idea of not being able to give birth to HK or living in a hotel till I get a new passport and visa for the new born (if this is what is needed).

    Thank you so much.

PLEASE contact the Romanian consulate as soon as possible.

dress: 1603-1605 Unit, 16th Floor, Tower Two, Lippo Centre,
    No. 89, Queensway, Hong Kong
    Phone: (00852) 252 33 813;
    Fax: (00852) 252 33 815
    E-mail: [email protected]

I would assume that the child would need a birth certificate and a passport to be able to leave Hong Kong. Not sure if the child will need a China visa or not.

    Shri,

Thanks for the reply. This is not of competency of Romanian Consulate, but of Chinese one. I already did and they are not sure of the exact procedure. Fact is that traveling in any country needs traveling documents. My question is if the birth certificate that will be emitted by HK Immigrations will be enough or not to bring the baby back to China.

    Thanks for the support anyway.

"Birth registrations normally takes 30 minutes to complete, and a Birth certificate is issued within another 10 minutes."
Not sure where the two weeks info is coming from. Should be quite quick, like 2-3 days if I take the info posted on the net as a reliable one (including booking on line the interview and such). Anyway, can be that you are right. Did you have any experience of such?

No. A birth certificate is not a travel document and is not accepted by HK Immigration for exits or entries. The same is true for an entry into China. You'd need a travel document.

All right! Thanks. Will check more direclty with HK Immigrations anyway next week, just to be on the safe side. If passport is needed, then I have a problem, because that can take time, time I dont have... to spend it in HK with a new born baby.

    Nela,

The hospital needs to send the birth record to the Birth Registry, this usually takes 2 weeks.

Yes the actual paperwork takes 30 mins at the Registry, but you can't apply until they receive the documents from the hospital.
