Bring helper to UK. (long term basis)

Has anyone knows about the rules and regulations of bringing helper back to UK in a long term basis? (not vacation)

From what i gathered so far, i need to fulfill at least 1 year employment (on paypoll) with the helper in order to bring her over to the UK.

However, I am unsure if I have to pay the helper according to the UK minimum wages or I can still stick to the Hong kong wages when we move back to UK with the helper?

ps: I have yet to get any full time helper, as my husband keeps telling me we need to fulfill 2 years contract, which we only have like 8 more months to live & work in HK. (as per the work contract). We may have to extend the work contract later.

It would be GREAT, if i can bring the helper to the UK and the the HK standard rate wages.

I would assume that as there is a minimum wage in the UK, then it would only be fair to pay that amount. Also, you should consider that the UK can be more expensive than HK with regards to transportation, some food items, clothing etc, so if you pay her the HK rate, then she could be worse off.

    Hope this helps.

As I understand it, you would be required to pay a minimum child care wage, plus medical insurance, 3rd party liabiity insurance, plus your helper may need to be registered with OFSTED, the government body which overseas child care/supervision etc etc.

Or you always have the option of looking after you child yourself, or of putting them into communal child care centres, as is the norm in the UK.

Easiest thing would be to call the British Consulate here in HK.

In answer to your questions. Yes you will be required to pay UK minimum wage. You will also be required to abide by the standard working week and pay overtime as required.

The UK is not HK therefore HK rules do not apply!
