I had PCOS two of the Gynae I visited told me ovulation kits won't work unless I use for 20 days in a month due to irregular ovulation. Got pregnant with Metformin for my 1st for 2nd naturally. For 1st ovulation kits did show time of ovualtion maybe because my cycle got regular with Metformin but for 2nd it did not show I ovulated even though I got pregnant the very same month.

I had a 60-70+ day cycle. I increased exercise and began south beach diet (basically low carb) plus took metformin. Within 3 months my cycle was 28 days and I fell pregnant.

You may also go for a more "natural" approach, and try chinese medicine (herbalist or acupuncture). As they try to regulate you internally, the side effects are less than taking Clomiphene or other drugs.

I used to have very long and irregular cycles, but then started taking "Bai Feng Wan" (White Phoenix pills). It regulated my cycles to 3X days.

    Hi aussie mum and HappyV

If you don't mind me asking, where you overweight prior to starting your regime?

Reason I ask is that I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS (cycles averaging 80-90 days) and have always eaten well (low carb) and exercise regularly. I am quite thin (170cm / 58kgs).

I have just started on metformin this month.

Given that I don't think there is much more I can do on the diet and exercise front, I am wondering whether you think adding the metformin may be enough to regulate my cycle?

I understand that heavy people often have success with ovulating through diet and exercise but am wondering what thin women with PCOS that already exercise/eat well can do to help themselves? (I have also started acupuncture).

    Many thanks in advance!

PS Is there a fertility specialist that is very experienced with PCOS that anyone can recommend?
