    Flu Vaccine/ Shots

hi, how many currently pregnant women have had flu shots whilst pregnant?

In light of H1N1 and the high risks it seems to pose to pregnant women, I'm currently considering it, my doctor is also advising me to.

However I've always been of the belief that flu shots dont always work, they are so many variants of flu strains, and always changing mutations of the flu straing, that it would seem futile to take the shot.

I've also been rather anti shots.. but right now I'm undecided.
would love to hear from other mums-to-be?

    thanks

    Hi there,

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and had a flu shot at my last antenatal check-up. I'm a teacher and am regularly exposed to all sorts of sickness so my Dr and the midwife strongly recommended it. I've had the vaccination in the past and even though it hasn't stopped me from getting sick altogether, I believe it has made me less sick, less often.

Despite that, I was anxious about getting it while I was pregnant and if I didn't have to work I probably wouldn't have had the vaccine. If you're not exposed to sickness regularly then maybe taking good care of yourself, washing your hands when you're out and about and avoiding anyone who's sick might be a better option; especially if you're entirely comfortable with the idea of the vaccine. Talk to your obstetrician or midwife before you decide for sure.

I a big believer in flu shots. I make the entire family, including the domestic helper, get them every year. When I was pregnant, I would just take them after the first trimester. No side effects on both children whatsoever and the entire family stays healthy!

I also got the flu shot while pregnant and like BLWC I am a teacher so I was at high-risk, but even if I was not a teacher, I still would have gotten it especially in Hong Kong - the capital viruses.
