Strollers and Travelling
We are going to take our almost 7 month old for a trip to Japan next month. We have an Orbit stroller, which is big like the Bugaboo Chameleon, and uses a car seat as the seat right now. The car seat detaches from the stroller...was wondering if other mums who have travelled with their baby's stroller have just pushed the stroller up to the gate and checked the stroller in at the gate? I'm always worried that when I check-in the stroller w/car seat at the gate it will get thrown around and ruined. What are other mums' experience with this? Thanks!

We just pushed it to the gate and handed it over to the flight attendants. They gave it back to us at the gate again after landing. We took dragonair, and they did a good job by wrapping up the folded stroller with a big plastic bag before they put it away.

yep, with cathay you just tell them at check-in that your stroller will be a gate check-in. they will put a tag on it with your flight number etc...when you arrive at your gate the flight attendant will tell you where to leave it. make sure all things that might get detached in transit are off etc....when we are traveling on airplanes, we take off all toys etc..ahead of time for easy opening and closing. we only had a plastic bag wrapped around it once for our long flight back to the states, but we don't mind as our MacLaren Techno is pretty tough and great for traveling. we've never had any problems. our stroller is always ready for us once we leave the airplane. at most, we've had to wait 10 minutes for them to bring up all the strollers;)

My son is 14 months and has been on 14 flights. When checking in, let them know that your stroller is 2 pieces so that they place one luggage tag on each piece (one on the frame and the other on the car seat). Have a great flight =)

Can we request that the airline cover it in a big plastic bag? I'm a bit wary about them just throwing my stroller and car seat uncovered into the baggage hold...doesn't it get really dirty? Thanks all for your advice!

hi FutureHKmom,
My post is a bit not related to your question. But I saw you mention that you have a Orbit stroller, so, I wanted to ask you about it.
We brought the whole Orbit travel system--toddler seat, car seat and bassinet. It looks like your car seat still fits in your 7 months old.
My Son is 4.5 month now and he refuses to sit in the car seat. Did you take you some time to get your baby to be in comfortable in the car seat. We thought it was such a waste since we've never used it.

As said, on our flight with dragonair they cover the stroller with a big plastic bag without us asking it, so it's kept quite clean and safe.

we had a protective cover specifically for carseats that we bought at Babies R Us in the US, but I am sure they have them somewhere in HK.
