    7 in 1 jab

My baby is 1 mth old and I was planning to get his second dose Hep B jab done.

The nurse said we could do:
    1. Hep B jab at 1mth old, then 6-in-1 jab at 2mths old OR
    2. skip the Hep B jab now and take the 7-in-1 jab (which includes Hep B vaccine) at 2 mths old instead.

Has anyone done the second option? Does it matter that the Hep B jab is delayed by one mth?

    Dear Mumsy

I'm not aware of a 7-in-1 jab, but I had waited to do the Hep B at 2 months for my younger child as part of the 6-in-1 (DTaP-IPV-Hib-HBV) jab. We also had the vaccine for the rotavirus administered at that time, but it's a separate jab at that time (18 months ago). No problems with delaying the HBV by one month as long as transmission is through exposure to infected blood or bodily fluids containing blood. Hope this helps!

I haven`t heard of the 7-in-1 either - you might be thinking of the 6-in-1, the 6th is the HepB. I got the 6-in-1 at my baby`s 6th month vaccination.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion. Yes it's supposed to be the 6-in-1 jab (I think nurse was also talking about the pneumococcal jab which also needs to be done at 2/4/6mths but is administered separately).

However if you take the 6-in-1 at 2/4/6 months, that means you get an extra dose of Hep B vaccine at 4mths which is not specified on the HK immunisation schedule - so I'm a bit unsure about this point. I will check with the doctor anyway.

We lived in the US, where they separate a lot. My kids got 3 Hep B doses at birth, 2 and 4 months ...

My son got the Hep B at birth, 1 month and then 6, and the 5-in-1 at 2 and 4 months, and then Hep B was combined at 6 months as both were required at that time, and he got the 6-in-1.
All were done privately as the gov`t clinics only offer 4-in-1 and Hep B separately. You might be looking at the old schedule of vaccinations for HK. Since 2007 it`s been updated and Hep B is included. If you want to get Hib (extra one in the 5-in-1), then just get the 6-in-1 privately (no more than $600) to avoid 2 needles.
    To re-cap:
    2/4 months- 5-in-1
    6 months- 6-in-1
