Hi Solidstar, please let me know how you party go as we are also planning our son's first year birthday which is three month from now.
We are going to have it at my parents house where they have a nice garden. My husband really wants a barbecue and inviting all the friends over.
I have been thinking what to do to entertain the kids we are going to invite. I am hoping to find a party entertainer--perhaps a clown or someone who can make animals out of balloons. (Not sure how available is this in the Mainland). I know my son would be too small to enjoy it. But if he sees other kids having fun, he probably could join in for a bit too.
But what Carang said really makes the point clear of this kind of party for me it's more for the parents. And hopefully, I don't end up with too much work then which might stress me out.

beware with clowns MANY, MANY small kids are terrified by them!

Yeah i bet my son would be too...
i did think about a balloon guy but they're not cheap either in hk so have decided to blow my own (with a pump and bag of balloons)
thanks margaret09 I did think about bouncing castles but worried that it might not be too safe for babies! Will contact them and see what else they have though... Will definitely have to warn all babies' parents to bring extra sets of clothes in case it gets too grassy!

the ball pool was one of the babies favourite things at my playgroup!

okay i have decided against a bouncing castle as babies seem to gather around one spot and try to stand/throw stuff/play and don't really know how to socialise yet anyways!
but am definitely still thinking of ways to let babies 'cruise' around on the grass somehow... maybe a bunch of small stools? am definitely bringining some toys and a few playmats for the even smaller babies... some balloons, got the cake ordered... ....
welcome any ideas!
