    paranasal sinus infection

since living & leaving england, i've been suffering from sneezes as soon as it gets cold or dusty (embarasssing when taking public transportation to work!).

i think that it has gone worse coz i couldn't smell some things like my bub's smelly nappy and oooh boy! you can smell it from afar!! now & finally, i've planned to go to the doc to get it checked. can a GP check if i've an infection or do i have to go to an ENT specialist? if i do have a paranasal sinus infection, can i get it fixed in QMH?

i didn't think of getting it fixed any earlier coz i thought it was just an allergy........

I would go to an Otorhinolaryngologist.

Aava, I think the best ENT is in the public system. I can't remember which hospital but I had to use one in the private sector here in HK and boy was it expensive! Pretty much an arm and a leg and we've got good insurance coverage!

Don't think it is that expensive, and anyway, sinus infection is a very common problem.

I had that before in HK. Went to one of the specialist that was available on Union Hospital, and it cost less than 1000 HKD. Probably would just give you some antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, and decongestant.... Unless your situation is very serious, and they require surgery to drain the pus.

    thanks ladies for the input!

so do i just turn up in QMH and tell them i need to see a ENT specialist or can i make make an appointment? i don't think i need a surgery but my smelling-power seems to have decreased (i'm not sure whether it's a good thing or bad? hehehe) and i've repetitive sneezes first thing in the morning and when it's cold/dusty.

Don't have experience at QMH. For UH (private clinic) I just called and made an appointment with whoever was available.

For public hospital, you will probably have to go to a GP, and get a referral letter before they can make an appointment for you with the ENT specialist... and the appointment may be in few days, weeks, or even months, depending on how busy they are.
