White noise machine
Hi, I seem to recall someone posting something a couple of months ago about where to buy a white noise machine / what to use for white noise. I did a search but can't find the post.
Does anyone know where to buy/what to use or have any other ideas regarding how to create white noise?

There is an iPhone app that does that. Quite a few actually.

Yes, there are a few iPhone/iPod apps that can do that.
Other way could be turning on a fan, an air conditioner, a dehumidifier, turning the TV or the radio on and tuning to a frequency that doesn't have signal.

There is one popular toy called "the Sleep Sheep" which has a white noise machine inside. I was given one as a gift and know many other people who have it also. My 8 month old really likes it! My older daughter never did but she didn't have a noisy sibling at home while she was trying to sleep ;) It's a cute little toy but as penguinsix said, you don't really need to buy anything, there are various places you can download white noise online etc and just play it on any media player too... but if you WANT to buy something, I recommend the Sleep Sheep.

You could also download white noise on the internet probably and put it on your ipod.

I bought a cd called baby white noise sampler cd from iTunes and played it on my iPod. However the real thing (ie. Hairdryer or running water tap was more effective.

I tried my dehumidifier tonight but I think it was drying the room out too much as my eyes started hurting a bit. May try the ipod version. Nicolejoy, where can you buy the sleep sheep and how long does it last for when switched on? Does it switch off automatically after a given time?
Thank you for your suggestions.Last edited by Liquorice; 03-25-2011 at 07:34 PM.

I've seen the Sleep Sheep at Eugene. I have no idea how much it is, I didn't buy it for myself. It has two timer options - I think it's 25 min or 45 min, then turns off automatically. It has a volume switch as well. My one "complaint" is that when it turns off, it is quite sudden and sometimes it wakes her up when it switches off! Usually she's fine though. And on a softer volume it's less noticeable too.
