Clothes, toiletry( they have shower gel and tooth brush set only), face towel ( only provide bath towel), book to read, drinks and snack in case you are hungry in the middle of the night or early morning ( you can order toast off hours), clothes for baby to leave hospital in. And Of course, camera

Own pajamas and clothes to go home in, clothes for baby to go home in, car seat for going home, snacks/magazines/books, camera and laptop. That was about all I took. They had stacks of pads so I didn't need any of my own although I did take some.

Edit: sorry, didn't see Biggie's response so, in summary, I agree with what she said!

If you are BFing, which Matilda advocates (and they have a bunch of nurses who will help you with this during your stay), I also found that I used a nursing bra and breast shells while I was there, because you will be really sensitive and unless you have a private room, probably want to wear the hospital gown which will rub against you. In case you aren't familiar with shells, get the kind with holes in it for breathability. These aren't the shields, btw, which do something else - these are the shells that provide some air flow and no chafing during the first few days before you toughen up.

Apologies in advance for the silly question (I am expecting my first baby), but how do maternity pads differ from regular sanitary pads, if at all? Thanks.

Maternity pads are just bigger/longer for very heavy flow. I actually just used "goodnights" because they were cheaper/more readily available. But you do need something larger/more absorbent than regular pads.
