Breastfeeding: Yeast Infection + Triacomb Cream

Hi, any of you had experience with yeast infection (breasts)?

I have been prescribed Triacomb Cream (for external application) and Difenac 50 by my Lactation Consultant.

Just want to check to see if anyone is familiar with them and that they are safe for the baby .....

    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi,

Is your LC also a doctor? A Lactation Consultant doesn’t have prescribing rights unless he/she has them from a different qualification.

Generally a triacomb cream is a cream made up of an antifungal, an antibacterial and a corticosteroid. These three are used together as it is often very difficult to isolate exactly what the problem is and sometimes you can have both a bacteria infection and a yeast infection at the same time. If you don’t treat them both together then the one not treated stops the nipple from healing.

I looked up Difenac and discovered that it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This is for pain rather than for fighting the infection. The most commonly used NSAID during lactation is Ibuprofen, which is often suggested for engorgement.

    Hope this helps,
    SARAH
