    Shopping around

Has anyone had experience of multiple private specialists? Are the charges of the different practices comparable or are some much more expensive than others?

I saw more than one private Obgyn during my first pregnancy - the reason being I was delivering public and wanted to have some extra private appointments. I started out with a gynac in Central I had been seeing for a different issue; his charges were about HK$1000 including scan. Then I switched to a doctor in Tseung Kwan O where I live, and her charges were never more than HK$600 including scan. I thought both were good, the TKO doctor was a little younger. My current gynac charges around HK$1000 including scan and is at Baptist Hospital. If you are planning to deliver at a private hospital, the delivery charges of doctors can vary and I heard that you can negotiate this fee.

    Still shopping

Thank you, that's very helpful--I'm finding the 'system' here very opaque!

Here is an article that might give you some idea:

    http://www.geobaby.com/articles/12-p...nd-ob-gyn-fees

Note that most listed there (and discussed on these forums) tend to be on HK Island and popular among expats. There are many good doctors on the Kowloon side, and my sense is that doctors in Central at least tend to be more expensive.

There's also an article on maternity packages (not sure how updated) under the articles section you can look up.

My advice though is if you find a doctor you are comfortable with and the fees are what you can afford, don't shop around too much.
