Traces of rice skin in baby's poo?

    Hi all,

My baby has just turned 8 months. She's been taking solid food since she was 6 months old. Starting with puree & all smooth stuffs then gradually coarse the texture. I started introducing rice porridge around 2 weeks ago. Initially I put the porridge into food processor to make it smoother then when I thought that she should learn to eat 'normal' porridge, I didn't do it anymore. She can easily eat it & chews the food & nothing's wrong when she's taking white rice. But 2 days ago I gave her whole grain brown rice & I noticed that the rice skin came out in her poo (just like the shape of rolled oats) as if she didn't chew it at all. Do you think it's normal? Or should I use the food processor again (just for the brown rice)? She can eat fruits, meat & tofu in tiny chunks and the poo is normal.

    Please advice.

    Thanks,
    Deasy

Some food just don't get digested, and come out in the same form as it goes in. You'll find corn and seaweed do the same thing as brown rice skin. Don't worry.

same thing can happen to adults, the body just cannot absorb/digest everything you eat and it can affect your poo, too.

Wait until you give them raisins, or blueberries - they can make some interesting messes on the other side!! But actually, what you can see is fibre which is very good for the digestive system. No need to worry, unless she has pain or other digestive issues.

    Thanks all.
I also noticed that the skin under her eyes turned red & a little bit swollen after feeding time.
I assume I made the food too coarse for her. Today I chopped it into smaller pieces & the skin wasn't as red as before.
Do you think it really has any connection between red skin & food texture?

no, that won't be the problem. there could be a connection between red skin and food type, though.
