Cart Seats and Emirates
Hi everyone,
we will be flying to europe next month with our 20 months boy. I bought extra seat for him and had in mind to buy a car seat for that.
We are flying with Emirates and things are getting complicated: they want me to provide proof that car seat I will use is certified for aviation (US /Canada / UE) and car seat must have a sticker showing this certification... sounds easy.
Have done most of baby shop (bumps, eugene, toys n us, etc...) and eveywhere the same answer: Britax Prince sold in HK is suitable for airplane BUT no sticker visible and nothing mentionned on the user manual... since it is for HK market...
I have provided the car seat model + dimension to Emirates but keep getting same answer: no sticker no car seat allowed....
Now, I checked with CX / AA and they do accept this car seat model.. and don't make a fuzz if no sticker...
Seems, according to Bumps & babes staff, that lot of people are facing the same issue with different airlines.
Is anyone encountered the same situation? How did you guys solved? Any recommendation for a shop where I can find a car seat showing the certification?
Thanks in advance for your help.
cheers

Ask them to provide you with the name of the exact model thy want. It has happened to me before that I was told to buy an airplant compatible carseat just to find out on the plane they wouldn't actually let me use it! Also is you are flying with a 20 month old you might look into getting a harness rather then a car seat.

We used the CARES harness with my daughter when she was 13 months flying to Hawaii. Worked great since it kept her in her seat while she's awake. She slept with her head on our laps. If your child is not used to sleeping in a car seat, and you don't have a car in HK, this "airline specific" purchase might be a waste of money.

can you borrow a seat from an American/Canadian/EU friend? You could even loan them the "new" seat and just do a swap while you are on holiday.

Hi & thks for suggestion / feedback
Yes, already asked Emirates to provide model they will accept... after many communication, up to Dubai HC... they will not provide any model... Check also with friends as well but none of them have car seat with this sticker on it..
@Bonita: believe CARES will do the trick. Checked their website and looks just what I am looking for... minus the stress and the pain to have to carry a car seat around... great suggestion and will try to buy it this week.
thanks again!

Even if they would give you a model, you never know who will be on the flight, and whether they would allow you once there, wouldn't risk it. I have/had US car seats and things are indeed very clearly labelled on there. I must honestly say I have never used a car seat once the kids were over 1 years old. It takes up way too much space and they would sit quite well by themselves. I agree the Cares harness would be a lot easier.
